So you’ve recorded your audio product, what next? You have a few options. The easiest step is to get your recording packaged as a digital download and start selling your recording. If you have a system like 1ShoppingCart, it’s easy to add a new product to your shopping cart and create an order follow up sequence to easily enable downloads.

Not everyone needs to have the full-service shopping cart. If you’re a small publisher or if you prefer to use PayPal to accept payments, then PayLoadz is the solution for you. It will allow you to upload your digital product to the system and enable easy download once payment is confirmed.

But what if you’re ready to take the next step?

Create A CD

You can enhance your audio product by releasing a CD version. There are a few great designers out there who can help you create artwork for your CD and jewel case. The two I recommend are:

Vaughan Davidson of Killer Covers

Amy DeWolfe of Amy DeWolfe Designs. Be sure to tell her that I recommended her to you so that you get the extra special treatment. 🙂

You can also find a CD/DVD on demand replication service to help you print the CD. I highly recommend Kunaki for all your DVD/CD replication needs. There are other self-publishing or on demand publishing services but the prices at Kunaki can’t be beat.

Provide A Transcript

Another way to enhance your audio product is by releasing a transcript of the recording as an eBook. Many of my clients release the transcript of their audio interviews as it helps their listeners follow along as they’re listening and print out the materials to take their own notes if they choose.

I recommend the expert services of Susie at The Admin Source. If you’re on a tighter budget and don’t mind cleaning up the transcript after it’s compete, then Casting Words Transcription may be ideal for you.

I’ve used Casting Words with a few of my clients with mixed results. If the quality of your recording is crystal clear and participants clearly identify who is speaking, then your transcription will be much more accurate. Also, if your speakers are native English speakers, they will have a greater chance of having their words interpreted correctly.

Both The Admin Source and Casting Words will return your transcript in Word format. To further enhance your transcript, you could have it laid out professionally by a graphic designer. Amy DeWolfe (see above) provides this service to many of my clients.

Another alternative which I’ll admit I’ve not tried but heard on an interview that Armand Morin did years ago is the software program Dragon Naturally Speaking. The program is designed to transcribe the words you speak so creating a transcript is essentially as easy as playing your recording while the program is running. I’ve not done it myself so can’t really say how easy the program is to use. If you give it a try, be sure to share your experience.

Create A Workbook

If your audio program involves any kind of instruction or exercises, then it would be useful to create a workbook or guide to provide your listeners with a space to track their work. The workbook can be a digital download or you can self-publish a print version.

Get Your Juices Flowing

I’ve gathered examples of products that started out as audio products and now include CDs, transcripts, workbooks and the like. Just follow the link for each program to read the salespage and view product images and components.

Rawkathon Kevin Gianni created a product from a series of video interviews that he conducted over the summer. The same could have been created from a series of audio interviews. The final product included transcripts, DVD videos and I believe a workbook or two.

Carp Belle Power My good friend Tuck Self has created a great suite of digital audio products. With each product, you get a digital audio file and eBook workbook. I absolutely love the brand and character that she’s created for herself. She really is a southern voice for self-expression.

How To Make A Living In The Natural Health Movement This program started out as a series of teleclasses that were recorded and available for download to students after each live teleclass. The course has grown to include home study materials now – several audio CDs containing the recorded teleclasses, a data CD with all the PDF presentations and handouts and a few bonus modules. Frederic’s program is a very good example of how your audio product can be transformed over time.
