Before you going thinking that I make dinner from scratch every night here in the Accidental Kitchen, let me assure you that some nights, I do pull things out of the freezer.  Tonight’s dinner is a family favorite.  I keep meaning to try my hand at making pierogies myself but they’re usually a fall back dinner.  Like when the kids are over and I just don’t know what to serve or the fridge is running desperately low on supplies, I’ll whip up a batch of pierogies and everyone’s happy.

I buy a family-size bag and keep them tucked away in the freezer.  The kids like them fried straight from frozen so there’s not defrosting required.  Just pop them into a skillet with some oil and fry until golden.  Serve with BBQ saucce or ketchup or mustard for dipping.

For the more “sophisticated” palate, I’ll fry up some bacon as well as a mixture of onion and green peppers.  Place each ingredient in an individual bowl on your table along with the cooked pierogies and invite everyone to dress up their pierogies to their taste.  Put out a bowl of sour cream as well and some chives for that extra special touch.

Pierogies can also be boiled first and then fried which results in a much softer pieorgi.  Or you can skip the frying all togehter.

And if you’re feeling really adventurous, here’s a video that shows you how to make your own:

Enjoy!
